W świecie Starbase każdy kontroluje robotyczny endoszkielet, dość trwałą powłokę, idealną do eksploracji i kolonizacji kosmosu. Społeczeństwo utworzone z tych robotycznych szkieletów koncentruje się obecnie na Gigantycznych superstacjach oraz mniejszych mini stacjach "przedmieśiach" w kosmosie. Stacje zapewniają bezpieczeńśtwo, pracę, centra społecznościowe i możliwości wymiany handlowej dla swoich mieszkańców, dzięki czemu są idealną bazą do rozpoczęcia kolonizacji galaktyki.
W galaktyce dwie najbardziej znaczące frakcje to rywalizujące Królestwo oraz Imperium, przy czym Imperium ma obecnie kontrole nad większością stacji centralnych. Można oczekiwać, że wraz z tymi dwiema frakcjami powstaną inne frakcje, w miarę jak społeczeństwo ewoluuje i rozwinie się.
Ponieważ życie w przestrzeni kosmicznej koncentruje się obecnie na niebiańskiej orbicie gazowej planety, odwazni poszukiwacze przygód będą musieli nieustannie odkrywać granice podróży kosmicznych i innych technologii, aby pewnego dnia dotrzeć do najodleglejszych zakątków galaktyki.
