Base Mounted Devices

Hardpoints

Hardpoints are used for mounting most devices, including thrusters, weapons and tools, and they are available in three common forms: Small, large, and a large corner variant. Apart from the corner variant (which has an additional mounting point for devices), there are no functional differences between the three variants. Hardpoints accept cables and pipes on the socket side, the resources of which are made available to the device that is mounted to them.

Cargo beam

In order for the cargo beam to lock onto objects and to be able to lift or otherwise move them, at least three beams should target the desired object from different directions. The beams should simultaneously hit the object from perpendicular angles. For example: If the object is a cube, the cargo beams should target the cube from at least three different sides. Cargo lock beams are currently unable to lock on to any player built object that includes thrusters (is considered a ship).

Power consumption of the cargo lock beam is variable, and changes significantly depending on the mass of the object being towed. They require a base electricity input of 5 e/s, plus an additional 0.002 e/s per kilogram of mass of the object being towed. It is important to remember that the mass applied to each cargo-lock beam (and thus, how much electricity each requires) is equal to the object mass divided by the number of cargo lock beams applied to it.

For example: a 1,500 kg object being towed by 3 cargo lock beams:

5 + ((1,500 / 3) ⋅ 0.002) = 6 e/s

.. will consume 6 e/s per beam.
