General rules

This page is a summary of the rules in and around Starbase. All rules are work-in-progress.

Streaming and videos

During Closed Alpha we would kindly ask everybody to be mindful of the fact that the game is still in Closed Alpha, and generally speaking not ready for a larger audience.

We have two rules of thumbs for videos and streams during Closed Alpha:

• Creating and posting videos that make it clear that the game is in Closed Alpha are ok but please don't do a "review" video. We don't want reviews right now because the game is not ready for it. Reviews are fine when we are asking money for the game (so once we are in Early Access - although the game will be improving on a weekly basis during Early Access so EA launch reviews will be out-of-date very fast).

• If you are an established streamer (over 1000 subscribers), we'd prefer if you ask us first (in Discord) before creating/posting a video.

Legally speaking there is no NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) for Closed Alpha.

General guidelines

Streaming and posting videos about Starbase is ok. You are also free to use Starbase music in videos that are related to Starbase, and monetize those videos (however monetizing the music otherwise is not permitted).

Re-posting official videos

Re-posting our official videos as-is is NOT allowed. We want to foster original content around the game. However, there can be various situations and we outline a few examples here:

Re-posting (the full official video)...
... with direct subtitle translation and no other content	⛔ Not allowed
... with commentary separately but less than the official video's length	⛔ Not allowed
... with commentary over the original audio	🟢 Allowed
... with spoken translation or commentary over the official video	🟢 Allowed

You are allowed to take snippets from any official videos and provide commentary or other original content on top or in addition to the official snippet.

In all cases, a link to the official video MUST be provided with similar wording to "Check out the official video (in English)".

Special permissions

Special permissions can be granted for projects that are interesting and benefit the game. However, we reserve the right to cancel any permissions later if there are unforeseen consequences (including but not limited to a technique exposing the game to cheaters and us having to ban all tampering with that technique).

Note that generally speaking all tampering with the game files and memory and output is prohibited. If you have an idea for a project, please get in touch (Discord #starbase-questions) and we may grant a special permission for the project.

Any permission may be revoked at any time, and past permission is not indicative of future permission.
