Summary
The universal tool is a foldable forearm-mounted screen used to interact with both mechanical devices and some tools.
Basic information
The display of the universal tool consists of three basic parts: the main display and two smaller side-panels, which are folded out when needed.
The left panel is used as the main menu of the universal tool and contains a list of all main display and right panel modes available.
- Collapsible from a button
- Contains a list of modes
- Each tool with an additional universal tool interface has its own mode
- New modes appear in the list as they are unlocked
- Collapsed by default when screen is folded open
The main display and right panel are mode-specific
- Right panel is usually collapsible
- A header bar contains tabs for any sub-modes required
Tool views
There are multiple different views inside the universal tool.
These include for example:
Device tool
The universal tool includes device interaction functionality by default that is used to monitor and configure Device fields, programmable chips, and device controls.
- With the tool open it can be used to connect to devices in the world.
- Three tabs: Data, Resource, Binds
- Data tab is used to interact with device fields and for monitoring data network traffic.
- Resource tab is used to monitor device resource connections and processes.
- Binds tab is used to configure device controls for pilot and gunner chairs and such.
- Accessible when sitting in pilot chairs.
- The right panel is collapsible and identical between the other main tabs
- Can be used to view a summary of the data and resource tabs
- Contains option for device renaming
Data tab
Fields list
- Displays all connected device fields
- Device's own fields are sorted on the top
- Names and values can be edited by double-clicking on them
- External fields are sorted below the internal ones, in alphabetical order
- Names and values cannot be edited
- All fields can be selected and multiple fields can be selected simultaneously as well.
- A filter search field is included for finding specific fields in a large network more easily
- Device's own fields are sorted on the top
Network log
- Contains a running log of all device field broadcasts in the connected network
- A button can also be pressed to limit the view to any fields selected in the fields-list
- Fits a maximum of 100 entries
- Flood filter options can be used to assist viewing networks with a lot of traffic
- Maximum value differential only shows new entries for a field if the value differs from the previously reported one significantly
- Maximum time differential only shows new entries for a field if enough time has passed since the previous report
Resource tab
Conversions list
- Shows basic information about all resource conversions running in the selected device
- Conversions are listed based on the primary objective of the conversion
- Status column shows the current operation rate (relative to the maximum capability), or an error-message if the conversion is halted due to an error
- Conversions can be selected to limit the status display to resources related to the selected conversion, helping to analyse issues in detail
Status panel
- Shows resource status for all resources handled in the current device
- Simple view is open by default and can be used to quickly analyse connection problems
- Lists all resources required as input or produced as output for any conversion
- Shows an error message for any problems
- Advanced view can be selected to show resource flow in more detail
- Shows all resources involved in conversions within the device, or stored in the device
- Information includes the current rate and storage capacity of the resource, both internally and in total for the connected resource network
- Any errors are also shown based on the resource
Binds tab
Bind options
- Options for the selected device bind and bound key/axis
- Shows information relevant to the device and bind types
Bind list
- Lists all bindable devices
- Devices with default binds are sorted on top of other devices
- Shows custom and default binds for all device interactions
- Highlights default bind when it is active
- Highlights custom bind when it is active
- Header has a dropdown menu for selecting from different bindsets
- Selecting a device from the list acts like selecting a device from the actual world
Right side panel
The right side panel shows a summary of the simple resource view status, the device's health and connection strength to universal tool, as well as editable fields for the device's name and internal fields.
- Accessible from all tabs by pressing a button to fold the side panel out or in
- Can be used to quickly edit device fields or view resource connection status
How to buy
The universal tool is standard equipment of every robot and it is included in every new activation of an endoskeleton.
