Community notes on system specs

From Starbase wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The purpose of this page is to collect information from our Early Access players on how well the game runs on various systems. This information will help other players who are wondering if "X" is good enough for the game. Please feel free to add your notes here!

Official system requirements

Check out the System requirements page for the official minimum and recommend system specifications and notes. We're transcluding them here as well but the page itself also contains some helpful notes on operating systems and Linux/Mac support.

Minimum system requirements for Starbase (Early Access):

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 / Intel i7
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB / AMD Radeon RX 480 4 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection required
  • Storage: 40 GB available space (SSD recommended)
  • Additional Notes: The game requires an Internet connection to play.

Recommended system requirements for Starbase (Early Access):

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 / Intel i7-6700k
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB / AMD Radeon RX 5700 8 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 40 GB available space, SSD storage drive highly recommended for smoother loading times.
  • Additional Notes: The game requires an Internet connection to play.

Community tips and tricks

This part should probably be moved to its own page eventually, but in its initial stage can live here.

Render Resolution Scale

Check %APPDATA%\Starbase\options.txt for RenderResolutionscale option: setOption(rendererModule, "RenderResolutionScale", 1) Change 1 to e.g. "0.5" to let the game render at 50% resolution while keeping the user interface at the normal resolution.

Community template

You can use this template to add your info:

{{System_Performance_Report
|User =
|Date =
|CPU =
|RAM =
|GPU =
|VRAM =
|Other =
|Used settings =
|Framerate summary =
|Other thoughts =
}}

Please list your entry under a heading for the graphics card, as that's usually the most important single part in a computer for games.

Early Access notes from the community

Feel free to add here in May-June 2021 (Closed Alpha) as well.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

JoelFB, 12 May 2021
CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU
RAM 16 GB RAM
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
VRAM 6 GB
Other:
Used settings 1280x720, Low settings (Very Low textures + Medium shadows), Borderless Window
Framerate summary Generally stable 60 fps in most situations (except network lag etc). Could probably crank up the settings. Using these for support purposes on the side. while using the computer for other stuff. This is an example entry to get things started on this page.
Other thoughts

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Pfandadler, 12 May 2021
CPU AMD RYZEN 7 5700X
RAM 32 GB RAM
GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
VRAM 8 GB
Other:
Used settings 1920x1080, Max settings, Borderless Window
Framerate summary Generally somewhere around 100 and 200FPS. In places like the marketplace at Origin it can drop down to around 60 but it rarely goes below that. Changing the Settings doesn't affect my framerate much if at all. At 4K the game still runs just at >60FPS.
Other thoughts The framerate is all over the place. There are places where you can walk five steps to go from >60 to <30FPS. I would consider my hardware to be beyond overkill for playing the game at 1080p. It would be more appropriate for high refresh rate gaming at 1440p and above. Especially with more optimizations in the places where the performance tanks independently from your hardware.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080ti

dusty, 10 June 2021
CPU Intel 8700k
RAM 32 GB @ 3200MHz CL16
GPU EVGA 1080ti FTW3
VRAM 11 GB
Other:
Used settings 3440x1440, max detail, TAA, no depth of field, border-less window
Framerate summary Between 70 and 120 FPS (120hz limiter) depending on the scene
Other thoughts Initial load-in can take a hot second, but otherwise the game performs pretty consistently. Some stutters and hiccups when streaming in new ships (especially if they are active), but otherwise very playable.

NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060Super

Willoguns, 8 July 2021
CPU i7-9700KF @5.00GHz (Overclocked)
RAM 32 GB @ 3200MHz CL18
GPU Gigabyte RTX 2060Super
VRAM 8GB
Other:
Used settings 1920x1080, borderless window, Very High texture quality, Medium shadow quality, TAA, No SSAA, No depth of field, Volumetrics on + Volumetrics area mode on,
Framerate summary Between 120 and 144 FPS in "empty" space (144hz Vsync limit), between 80 and 100 FPS in heavily populated scene (Origin marketplace, etc.)
Other thoughts Framerate tends to stutter when loading in stations and most ships, however overall performance is very good/smooth. Comparatively low internet speed (~4MB/s download) leads to some issues when playing with others, but network performance is also usually quite smooth.

=== NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M

Fritcher, 2 August 2021
CPU i7-4700MQ @2.40 GHz
RAM 16 GB RAM
GPU GTX 765M
VRAM 2GB
Other:
Used settings 1280x720, fullscreen, Very Low texture quality, everything as low as possible
Framerate summary 25-40FPS in empty space, 15-25 FPS in Origin or when looking at a star
Other thoughts I mean, it works. I never thought it would.
